RSO - Students for Justice in Palestine
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, is a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community members who support the Palestinian struggle for justice and equal rights. As a solidarity organization, we support the Palestinian call for 3 basic rights:
1) The right not to live under occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip
2) The right to equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel
3) The right for Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland
Our mission on campus is to provide a safe space for discussion, education and solidarity activism, including the “BDS movement” regarding the human rights violations facing the Palestinian people. Group activities include weekly meetings, Wednesdays in Herter 111 at 7 PM, where we discuss current events, activism strategy and an active awareness campaign to educate the student body about the realities of the Israeli occupation and apartheid system. As a group, we focus on supporting these rights instead of advocating for a particular political solution (such as one or two states). We are not affiliated with ethnic, racial or religious prejudices, and are open to people of all demographic backgrounds.
